My Top 10 Books for Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurs and Leaders

  • The Buddha and The Badass by Vishen Lakhiani – Sometimes, you need to revisit what matters most in life. Vishen Lakhiani reminds entrepreneurs, leaders, and employees to connect with their mission, values, and purpose. He talks about the highs and lows in his business journey and throughout his life. Subsequently, each chapter is packed with information and exercises to facilitate transformation. The methodologies in this book present ideas for you to experience personal growth and ways to make positive changes in your workplace.

A Book for the Mind

  • Limitless by Jim Kwik – The brain is a fascinating organ. In this book, Jim Kwik provides strategies and tools to supercharge your brain. If you’re interested in improving your memory, focus, and speed reading, check out Limitless. Jim Kwik is truly an expert in teaching you how to tap into your full potential and become limitless.

A Book for the Body

  • Run Walk Run Method by Jeff Galloway – Earlier this year, I met with a physician entrepreneur who is also a marathon runner. After mentioning my interest in running, she suggested this book. Now, I’m a huge fan of Jeff Galloway and running. His method has me running and avoiding injuries. I recommend this book to those thinking about running or who are open to new techniques.

Books for the Spirit

  • The Empath Survivor’s Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People by Judith Orloff, MD – If you identify as an empath, think you may be one, or know someone who is, this book offers insight, compassion, and clarity. Dr. Orloff combines her medical background and spiritual insights to help empaths live healthier lives. Each chapter has a wide range of tools and exercises to awaken your intuition, provide self-care, and deepen your spiritual connections with others.

Books to Explore New Horizons

  • The Best of Simple by Langston Hughes – I recently discovered that these short stories, which originally appeared in a weekly column in the Chicago “Defender” in the 1940s, are among my aunt’s favorite books. I knew Langston Hughes as a poet and novelist, but I wasn’t familiar with his fictional works. This anthology of short stories is about Jesse B. Semple, referred to as “Simple”. The character’s observations throughout the book include the changing social, cultural, political, and economic life of black Americans during the Jim Crow era. Each story is full of funny and relatable scenarios for many black Americans, which continue to resonate then and now.
  • Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky – So, I keep a list of classic books that I want to read. As a result, one of my goals was to read one of Dostoyevsky’s best-known works. Crime and Punishment tells the story of a man who commits murder and his “punishment”. Dostoyevsky’s complex characters cause you to think deeply about human nature and how we choose to live our lives. In addition, he expertly weaves in political, social, and spiritual issues. In my opinion, it’s a grim, yet interesting psychological thriller.
